Fall

Fall

Indignation

September, back to school, jacket on, is it Lipton outside?

Change is in the trees and ground, the last downhill of the amusement ride

October, cool and somber; harvesting this part of our lives

All the colors reds browns greens and gold keeping warm at night

Don't just say you really love me Don't just say you really care

I need you now more than ever I need to feel you there

November, the first fallen snow it’s now cold outside

But I’m warm when I’m inside you don't need to say a word

Don't just say you really love me Don't just say you really care

I need you now more than ever I need to feel you there

its now, or is it never, a frame holds a thousand and change for the ride...

Don't just say you really love me Don't just say you really care

I need you now more than ever I need to feel you there

About Fall

History and recording

 - History

Fall was written during the Cowgomoo era, and recorded with Neon Kings on their EP - Majestic (2001). Little has changed in the song structure, although the arrangement has shifted somewhat over the years.

Relationships go through seasons. Awakening in Spring, burning bright in Summer, settling in during the Fall, dying off in Winter. Good relationships rekindle, regrow, like a perineal flower in winter; and some, like the weather in Virginia, can feel like having three of the four seasons occur simultaneously, never proceeding into Winter.

It would be amazing to have Summer never end; and, though rare, can happen. But what happens when Summer burns brighter than thought possible? Is Fall needed to balance, or will it race into winter, to never return again? Will the leaves fall and never be replenished?

- Recording

All of the “small” sessions featured the one room paradigm. Fall was a little bit of a demon to get right, and more overdubs were necessary. After a few passes, we had the drums. The Bass line that Mac had played live, really wasn’t working, so we went into the control room and wrote a new part piece by piece. For Mac’s first ever real studio experience, he came through like a champ!

Guitar day was super involved for Fall, using the phenomenal selection of amplifiers supplied by Studio 607, set up in the main room, and my PRS. It was truly a wall (or two) of guitar.  Lots going on, especially with the solo parts, and the choruses

All vocals were also done in the main room, with JR on background and doubling vocals. The hard parts were each performed a few times, to accentuate the rawness, as my voice became hoarser throughout the session.
